The Ice Monster – by David Walliams

A book review by Inesh Shenoy

Hello! I am Inesh Shenoy and I am nine-years-old. Today I am writing about ‘The Ice Monster’ book by David Walliams. This book is illustrated by Tony Ross and published by HarperCollins Children’s Books.

Listen to the review directly from Inesh Shenoy

The Ice Monster is about a girl named Elsie who lives in an orphanage called Wormly Hall: Home for Unwanted Children. Elsie lives there with her 25 friends, who are also orphans. Miss Curdle who runs the orphanage is a mean old woman.

Elsie knew she had to escape from the orphanage or she would never survive. So one night she manages to escape into the streets of London via the hole she scraped in the roof.

Inesh poses happy with his copy of the Ice Monster

She keeps secretly visiting the Natural History Museum and there she becomes a friend of Dotty, a cleaning lady at the museum. One day she learns that a great ancient Mammoth was dug up and would be brought to the museum.

When the mammoth finally arrives at the museum, Elsie goes to see it. She then manages to bring the mammoth back to life and that is when the adventure really starts. The mammoth (who Elsie calls Wooly) wants to go back to the North Pole.

My favourite part of the story is when Elsie brings the mammoth back to life. The different things they do, from attaching wires to using hot air balloons, to bring the mammoth back to life is very interesting.

Elsie, Dotty, and a group of retired soldiers decide to take Wooly to the North Pole. But they have to face Lady Buckshot who is a hunter and wants to kill the mammoth, and The Professor who wants to keep the mammoth and become famous. Even the Queen wants the mammoth back and sends her soldiers to capture it.

At one point of the story, one of the Queen’s soldiers shoots Wooly. Can Elsie save Wooly? If she does, can she save it from Lady Buckshot and The Professor? Can Elsie and her friends really take Wooly safely to the North Pole? What other dangers await them there? Read the book to find out.

I hope you read this book because it shows how strong friendship can be, even between a 10-year-old girl and a 10,000-year-old mammoth. If you read this book, let me know.

Have you read any other book by David Walliams? Which of them should I read next? Write to me.

Dog Man – by Dav Pilkey

A book review by Iresh Shenoy

Hello! My name is Iresh Shenoy and I am seven-years-old. Today I am going to write about the book, ‘Dog Man’ by George Beard and Harold Hutchins. I’m kidding! Dog Man is written and drawn by Dav Pilkey! Dav Pilkey has also written Captain Underpants, Dog Man, and even Super Diaper Baby. Dog Man is published by Scholastic.

Listen to the Dog Man review directly from Iresh Shenoy

Dog Man is about a cop and a dog and the book starts with the Police Chief getting a new couch. The dog always sits on the Chief’s couch and the Chief doesn’t want dog hair on his new couch.

So the cop and the dog go out of the police station, but then they get blown up in a bomb blast by the evil cat Petey. They are both taken to the hospital, where the doctors fix the dog’s head to the man’s body! That’s how Dog Man is born!

Iresh Shenoy poses with his copy of the book, Dog Man
Iresh poses with his copy of Dog Man

The evil cat Petey wants to rule the world. Can Dog Man fight and defeat Petey? Or will the evil cat win and take over the world? You need to read the book to find out!

My favourite part of the book is when Dog Man saves all the dogs from the Pointy Thingies. The evil cat had captured all the dogs in a big cage, but the Dog Man manages to save them all. Can he also defeat Petey and stop his evil plans?

I think you should read this book because it has a lot of action, suspense, and also a lot of funny jokes. I liked reading all the adventures of Dog Man and I think you will like it too.

Have you read the Dog Man book? Did you like it? What about other books by Dav Pilkey? Have you read them? Which is your favourite story?

Tell me! I am waiting to hear from you.

See you soon!

Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse – The Movie

A movie review by Ishaan Shenoy

Hello! I am Ishaan Shenoy and I am nine-years-old. Today I am going to review the movie ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’. I was eagerly waiting to watch this movie because a scene from it was shown as one of the post-credit ending scenes at Venom.

Listen to this movie review directly from Ishaan

‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ is about a boy named Miles Morales who gets bitten by a radio-active spider, making him the only Spiderman in the universe. I am kidding!

The movie begins with the real Spiderman dying as he tries to stop Kingpin from running a really large, dangerous machine that may destroy the world. And it gives us one surprise after another, and gives us a lot of laughs.

The iThree play their parts at the Spiderman into the Spiderverse installation
The #iThree play their parts at the Spiderman into the Spiderverse installation!

With the help of four more spider-people and a spider-pig from around the multiverse, Miles has to stop the Kingpin from destroying the universe. But Miles has not yet learnt to use his new powers, and the other spider-heroes think that he is not ready and can’t really help in fighting Kingpin and his gang.

This movie is very different from all the recent Spiderman movies as it is animated and very colourful. Even if it is animated, the movie is still very realistic and pulls us into the wonderful world of the multiverse.

My favourite part is when Miles makes his Spidey suit and jumps off a building. He is still learning to use his powers and this brings a lot of funny scenes. It also gives us a hint of the different powers he has.

I saw this movie with Inesh, Iresh and my dad in the 4DX theatre of PVR Cinemas, which has many special effects like moving chair, blowing wind, fire effects, and even falling snow! All these made this movie experience even more fun and special.

Wall of the PVR 4DX Theatre with the words Motion, Light, Bubble, Wind, Water, Snow, and Scent.

Can Miles and his spider-friends defeat Kingpin? Will they be able to save the universe or is it too late already? Watch the movie to find out!

I think you should see this movie because it is filled with comedy and lots of action. I hope you see this movie and like it as much as I did.

I am now looking forward to watch Captain Marvel which releases on March 8th. I am really excited about it as it will give some important hints to Avengers – End Game. Do you like the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe)? Which movies have you watched? What is your favourite. Please tell me.

See you soon!

Becoming Super-Heroes!

We love Comic Con! We have been going to Comic Con Bangalore right from the start. The first time we just went to see and meet the different comic book characters. We had a lot of fun.

Listen to this story directly from Ishaan

Then our dear Peter-maama and Claudia-maami surprised us by sending a set of superhero costumes from Scotland! This helped us to be Hulk, Spiderman, and Captain America.

And that is how we have gone to Comic Con for the last few years! The first time, it was just the two of us – Inesh and Ishaan. We went dressed as Captain America and Hulk. It was 2014 and Iresh was less than 3 years old!

Inesh & Ishaan turn into Captain America & The Hulk

But all the fun really started in 2015 when Iresh took over his favourite character, Captain America. With a broken arm too!

Young Iresh makes his first appearance as Cap’n America!

Now SO MANY PEOPLE wanted to take photographs with him! It was like everybody wanted to take photographs with him and us! We were even featured on the Comic Con Facebook Page and also in a news article on YourStory.in! We went this year too!

Iresh and Inesh and Captain & Hulk make the Comic Con Official FB Page! (2015)

That time, a comics stall owner gifted Iresh the Captain’s Shield! This time, Iresh was gifted a signed portrait of the Captain by the artist Eugene Joseph (@genesjournal)!! He really has the best time among all of us! Sometimes we are jealous of him. Very jealous!

A happy Iresh poses with Eugene Joseph and his amazing gift!

Anyway, we have fun too as a lot of big people and other cosplay characters pose for photos with us. Here are some of our favourite photos from this year’s Comic Con Bangalore.

After all that fun, we are now waiting for Captain Marvel to launch. The movie is coming on March 8th and that is only a few weeks away!

We can’t wait to watch it! We are also hoping that @StarMoviesIndia will invite us for a #StarMoviesSecretScreening and give us a chance to see Captain Marvel before everybody else in the world!

After all, we are #SecretKeepers too!

Fortunately The Milk – by Neil Gaiman

A book review by Ishaan Shenoy

Hello! My name is Ishaan Shenoy and I am nine-years-old. Today I am going to review Neil Gaiman’s ‘Fortunately The Milk’. It is about a family who wake up one day to realise that they are out of milk. The father steps out to get some milk and does not return for a very long time.

Listen to the review directly from Ishaan Shenoy

The kids wait and wait for their father to come back with the milk so that they can have their cereals. As they wait, they get bored and start to play one game after another. Finally, the father comes back after what has been a very very long time, and tells them a big, long story about why he was delayed.

Ishaan remembers just how funny the book is!

His story has everything from time travel to flying machines to aliens to dinosaurs! Fortunately, he saves the milk packet every time, and also claims to have saved the world! Is he telling the truth or just telling a long tale to hide the real reason why he was late in getting milk for the kids?

This book came to us in a box-set of three books by Neil Gaiman, and also had ‘The Graveyard Book’ and ‘Coraline’ in it. All these books have been illustrated by Chris Riddell. The drawings are really nice and make the book more funny. My twin Inesh has already reviewed ‘The Graveyard Book’ and I hope that you have read it.

What I like most about Neil Gaiman is that his books are always filled with great imagination. I think you should read this book because it is filled with lots of action and laughs. My favourite part in this book is when the father meets the brilliant Doctor Steg, who is a dinosaur scientist and has created a time machine!

My brother Inesh has also read this book, and this is what he says:

My favourite part is when the father escapes from the green globby aliens. I like this book because of all the time travelling and the jokes. I think you should read this book because it is funny, wacky and awesome. Or as ‘The Bad Guys’ would say, “Back-Flipping Awesome”!

Inesh Shenoy (@i3andcoblr)

I agree with Inesh! Fortunately The Milk is most funny and gives us a lot of laughs. I wonder if the story is really of Neil Gaiman himself, and that makes it even more funny! I think you will enjoy the book a lot. I know I did!

If you have read this book or any other book by Neil Gaiman, tell me what you think of them. I want to hear from you.

See you soon!

The Bad Guys – by Aaron Blabey

A book review by Iresh Shenoy

Hello! My name is Iresh Shenoy and I am seven-years-old. Today I am writing about The Bad Guys series. The Bad Guys books are written by Aaron Blabey and published by Scholastic. It has lots of jokes in it and it makes me laugh very loudly!

Listen to the review directly from Iresh

What I know is that The Bad Guys series has at least eight books already, and I have read seven of them. I really like reading these books because they are really funny and very interesting for me.  I just can’t stop laughing when I read these stories.

Iresh is seen laughing loudly in joy while reading a book!
Iresh captured in a most happy moment, while reading one of The Bad Guys book!

The Bad Guys books are about the adventures of a Wolf, a Shark, a Snake, a Piranha and a Spider. They are real bad guys. They want to be good guys and help people. They try to be good guys, but everyone knows them as bad guys and are very scared of them.

Iresh shows off his collection of The Bad Guys

Every time they try to help others, things go very wrong. The stories are really funny. Most times they are fighting with each other. Sometimes they are even trying to eat each other!

Can The Bad Guys really become good guys and save the world? You need to read the books to find out! I really hope you read these books and have fun with them. I am now looking forward to reading book #8.

If you have read any of The Bad Guys books, let me know what you think of these books. If you like some other book very much, please tell me. I would like to read it too.

Mary Poppins Returns – The Movie

A film review by Inesh Shenoy

Hello! I am Inesh Shenoy and I am nine-years-old. Today I am writing about the movie ‘Mary Poppins Returns’. It is a Disney film directed by Rob Marshall. I really liked Mary Poppins and all the magical things she does!

Listen to the review directly from Inesh

Mary Poppins is a magical character created by P. L. Travers and featured in a series of eight books in the 1930s. I have not read the books yet. My father recently bought the 80th Anniversary Collection of Mary Poppins which has all the books! I am planning to read them soon. I will share my thoughts after I have read them.

In 1964, a movie called Mary Poppins was directed by Robert Stevenson. This was based on book one of the Mary Poppins series and showed the Mr and Mrs Banks having two children, Jane and Michael. One day a mysterious lady flies in from the skies with her magical umbrella. She comes to their house and tells that her name is Mary Poppins and she will be their nanny!

Mary Poppins becomes the nanny for the kids Jane and Michael. She has a magical umbrella that can talk and a bag which is bigger on the inside so she can fit anything into it! She leaves them one day, and they slowly start to forget about all the magical impossible things they saw with her.

The #iThree are excited with their special passes for #StarMoviesSecretScreening

Our father was invited to a #StarMoviesSecretScreening by @StarMoviesIndia. They told that he could bring his children, so Baba took us along. I loved the experience of Secret Screening! We kept guessing which movie it could be.

Later at the theatre, we guessed that it had to be Mary Poppins Returns. They had this nice bench we could sit on with Mary Poppins standing behind us!

“We know what movie it is! It has to be Mary Poppins!” shout the #iThree

The new movie starts many years after the first one, and shows Jane and Michael as grown ups. Michael was married to his wife and has three kids. Ever since Michael’s wife died a year back everything is in a mess.

Mary Poppins comes flying at the end of a kite to look after the three children. She has her talking Umbrella and the small bag which is so so big on the inside!

This movie is picturised in London in the 1930s. Watching it I felt like I was in London. I also got to see the Big Ben. It was amazing.

I loved the movie. It combines animation and reality and shows us many impossible things. It is a lot of fun! My favourite part is when Mary Poppins changes time! You need to see the movie to understand what I mean.

Have you seen Mary Poppins Returns? Or have you read any of the Mary Poppins books? Tell me how it was for you.

Until next time!

The Secret Seven – by Enid Blyton

A book review by Ishaan Shenoy

My name is Ishaan Shenoy and I am nine-years-old. Today I am going to review The Secret Seven series. It is a series of 15 books by Enid Blyton featuring seven children and their dog Scamper, who solve mysteries. Their names are Peter, Janet, Colin, George, Jack, Pam, and Barbara.

Listen to the review of The Secret Seven directly from Ishaan

What I like most about Enid Blyton’s books is that it is always about mystery or fantasy. She has written over 600 books including the most popular Adventures of Noddy, the Five Find-Outers, the Famous Five, The Wishing Chair Collection, Magic Folk Collection, and many more.

Ishaan is happy showing off his Secret Seven collection!

The books I have were given to us by my father. They are a collection of five books containing three stories each. Each story is a book by itself, and about 120 pages. It took me a few weeks to finish each set of three books.

My favourite book in the series is the Secret Seven Mystery. This book is about a house owner who leaves his house empty for a few days. And then something or someone is entering the house in the nights! The Secret Seven try to solve the mystery by finding out the truth. Read this book to find the answer.

I like reading the Secret Seven because each story has adventure, mystery and suspense. I really hope you read these books and enjoy them. If you read any of the Secret Seven books, let me know. I will love to hear from you.

The Graveyard Book – by Neil Gaiman

A book review by Inesh Shenoy

My name is Inesh Shenoy and I am nine-years-old. Today I am going to write about The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Listen to the book review directly from Inesh Shenoy

This book was given to us by my father. It came in a box-set of three books by Neil Gaiman, which were:

  • The Graveyard Book
  • Fortunately The Milk, and
  • Coraline

All these three books are illustrated by Chris Riddell, whose drawings make the stories come to life.

Inesh Shenoy of #iThree and Co poses with the box set of three Neil Gaiman books
Inesh looks at his happiest with Neil Gaiman’s books!

I like Neil Gaiman because whenever he writes a book it has out-of-the-world imagination. I have also read the other two books mentioned above, and I will write about them some other day.

The Graveyard Book is about a boy named Nobody Owens, who is known as Bod. Bod is an orphan and is raised in a graveyard.

This story is an adventure where Bod faces danger from a man named Jack. Jack has already killed Bod’s family and is now trying to kill Bod. Why is Jack trying to kill Bod is the main secret in this book. And it is rather shocking too!

My favourite part is when Bod’s guardian Silas saves him from going to jail. I like Bod so much that I did not want him to get hurt or die, because every time he is down and defeated, he gets back up and fights.

Join Bod in his adventure with ghosts, and learn how he deals with Jack. I hope you read this book because it is filled with mystery and suspense. If you read it let me know how it was for you.

Who Let Nonu Out? – By Anita Nair

A book review by Iresh Shenoy

Hi! My name is Iresh Shenoy and I am seven-years-old. Today I am going to write about the book ‘Who Let Nonu Out’. This book is written by Anita Nair.

Listen to the book review directly from Iresh

What I know about Anita Nair is that she has written at least two books: ‘Who Let Nonu Out’ and ‘Living Next Door To Alise’. I have read both of these books and I liked both of them.

Iresh poses with his latest two reads: books by Anita Nair

Today I am writing about ‘Who Let Nonu Out’, which is a story of a baby squirrel named Nonu. I will write about the other book another day. Nonu lives with his family and the story starts with him being sick in bed.

Nonu wants to see the world. One day he comes out of his house and then he gets lost from his family. This book is about his adventures in trying to get back to his home and family. As I was reading this book, I was worried if Nonu will be able to get back or will he die, eaten by a lion or killed by a dog.

At one time, I was so scared that I asked my father, “Baba, will Nonu die or will he go home?” I am so happy I read this book, from start to end. I think you should read this book, because it is very interesting and while you are reading you may be scared too. It is fun.

Let me know if you have read this or any other book by Anita Nair.  I want to hear from you.

See you soon!
